Wild Rose Newsletter September 2021

Posted on September 21st, 2021

"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall..."

With the onset of the autumn weather, it's another reminder that the fight against COVID-19 is not over. The daily cases of infection continue to rise, and the beginning of the fourth wave has begun. There are no new restrictions being put into place for our community; however, it's best to be vigilant to protect our residents and staff.

A reminder that continuous masking is still in place when you visit our community. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.

We will update you accordingly as we get any new directions from Public Health.

From the Management Team

The sun is slowly setting on Summer, and what a summer it was!

We spent fun times on our patio listening to live entertainers, enjoying family visits, eating popsicles and indulging on root beer floats. Recently our residents were treated to an impromptu piano concert from one of our residents' piano students, which had the whole lobby smiling and singing along to some old favourite tunes.

Residents gathered for activities for seniors in a common room

Wild Rose started a weekly program called Reader's Theatre where residents can request their favourite poems and play scripts to be recited and performed. This has proven to be a very popular afternoon that evokes plenty of emotion and reflection.

Our August Birthday club celebrated four residents' birthdays where we had Denis Bourbon, an accordionist, accompany some lively music while we had a cake-and-coffee social.

Our friends at The West End Seniors Activity centre partnered with us, and many other Edmonton businesses, for two days of 'The Amazing Race' which had registrants visit various locations, compete in fun games, and sign up to win prizes. Those who participated were treated to a BBQ hosted by the centre. What a great way to meet the friendly people in our neighbourhood!

If you haven't already checked out the Seniors Activity Centre click the link below to see all the programs they offer. They are conveniently located just west of Wild Rose.

Wild Rose's Newest Addition

Just in case you haven't heard the rumours, Wild Rose has received its own bus the other week! We are thrilled to welcome this new addition to the team and look forward to using it to assist our residents with getting around Edmonton.

Open House

On September 3rd, we had a successful open house. It was also National Food Bank Day, so we celebrated "Fill the Bus" by collecting donations for the food bank. We also hosted a Margaritaville-themed food drive complete with a steel drum band, Caribbean style BBQ, and a Margarita bar.

Thank you everyone who attended!
